Big day for a special homecoming king at Brooklyn Center

In spite of a homecoming loss, there were plenty of smiles at Brooklyn Center H.S. this past Friday.

The school's homecoming king, Spencer Ihejirika, found his way onto the field for the first time this season and made it memorable.  The developmentally-delayed senior was not only able to see the field on special teams, but made a big impact in returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown for the Centaurs against St. Anthony Village.

King Spencer, who has been the Centaurs' Twelfth Man and biggest supporter this season, was handed the ball by a teammate, and rushed through the Huskies' kick coverage team with the homecoming fans and Brooklyn Center sideline cheering wildly for their emotional leader.

Thanks to Brooklyn Center and St. Anthony Village coaching staffs, it was a fitting end to an eventful week for the young man.  Local news covered his Homecoming here:
